PHOTOGRAPHY RATES

I only charge for the time spent taking your photos, but it includes so much more…

  • Full Day (8 hours) - £500

  • Half day (4 hours)- £275

This is a guide - however, before I can send you an accurate quote for photographic work – and to make sure I am best meeting your needs – I will need you to tell me more about you and your project - see below:

What’s included in the ‘day rate’ fee:

  • All engagement prior to Photography session, including phone brief. (*Not including recce site visit - see Expenses)

  • All photography – your charge will be based on the time it takes me to get you the photos you want

  • Processing of all your images – there’s no additional charge for standard image processing which includes basic editing (colour balance, brightness, basic sharpening and cropping etc), re-profiling and uploading to a secure site. For reference - this usually takes just as long to process your images as it does to take them.

  • Supply of the images – You will have access to all your images in a private, password-protected gallery for you to browse and download at your convenience. JPEGs will be sized specific for your intended use. I believe you should have the opportunity to choose from a wide selection of images, although you won’t receive anything that I don’t consider to be of an excellent technical standard.

  • A license to use your images online digitally (website, social media, apps and blogs) without time limit and worldwide.

*Third party use is not permitted at this rate, and printing of images is not included - see Commercial Terms & Conditions and Digital Image Licensing Price info for more detail.

  • I aim to have your images ready for you within 14 days from shooting unless otherwise stipulated.

  • I aim to store all of our original photo files.

  • Public liability insurance up to £5 million

Travel and Expenses

I am based in the Cairngorms National Park - a great launch point in the middle of the Scottish Highlands - but travel far and wide to the central-belt of Scotland and UK wide. International travel (particularly relevant for humanitarian/development projects) and everything else required can be discussed on a case by case basis - but any work costs incurred will be claimed as expenses.

  • Mileage fee for use of my own transport at £0.75 per mile.

  • Travel time will be charged at £25 per hour from PH25 3DG

  • Recce visits to site or to discuss session in person charged at £30 per hour

  • Any overnight stays will be charged at cost for suitable accommodation

  • Multi-day shoots on location can sometimes incur an overnight charge of £100

  • Meals and other amenities will be charged at cost.

  • Any use of public transport or taxis will be charged at cost

* You will not need to pay VAT

Additional hours

The day rate stated above is based on Half day - 4 hours and Full day - 7.5 hours. The start and end time of a shoot can remain flexible depending on requirements and with prior agreement. Any extra shooting hours accrued on a Half day will be charged at £80 per hour for 1 extra hour or a whole day rate for any more than 1 extra hour (5< hours). Any extra shooting hours accrued on a Full day will be charged at £80 per hour.

Editing / Image preparation

Standard image processing (see above) is included, however if you require more specific or refined editing this is charged at £50 per hour.

What I need to know before offering an accurate quote:

  • What exactly do you want me to photograph?

  • Location of the shoot – to determine any travel or expense costs?

  • Will the shoot involve multiple sites or products?

  • Will the job require more than one visit – if so roughly how many and over what time scale?

  • A bit about your business - what do you do / produce? How many staff? etc…

  • What are you going to use the final images for – web, print, editorial, general promotion etc?

  • Will you be using your images for an international print/billboard marketing campaign?

What are my tools:

Your photos are created with specialised cameras and lenses and post production software packages and techniques.

  • High resolution stills are captured using Nikon DSLR cameras, and a range of lenses to suite every scenario and angle.

  • I also use a Mavic Pro 2 drone for aerial views which takes fantastic still images and video with an inbuilt Hassleblad camera. I am accredited with the A2 Certificate of Competency, and have relevant public liability insurance (up to £5 million). Both are required to use the drone commercially.

  • I also use underwater camera housing (and I don’t mind getting wet!) should the opportunity arise - this can provide some fun and original perspectives.

  • For image editing - I use Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. I do not apply heavy edits but it is often necessary to ensure images have the right tonal and colour balance, cropping and stitching images, ensuring quality and consistency and indeed applying any overall style to the images. This also allows me to resize and format the images to your needs.
